Founded in 2015 by Jonathan Hyde
From Porto to Sheffield
Hyde Wares was born in 2015 from an urge to slow down, to design and make a range of leather items that would stand the test of time and grow with the owner.
I discovered the art of leather crafting whilst living in Portugal, influenced by fantastic local materials and classic design. I am self-taught and began by making items that I wanted to use - be it sturdy camera straps, a belt that would last until I’m an old man, or a trusty key fob. I still create with this principle in mind and ‘test drive’ each new design before putting on sale.
All items are designed and handmade by myself, from a fabulous workshop in Exchange Place Studios in Sheffield, part of Yorkshire Arts Space.
From here I also run monthly Belt-making workshops where you can learn the joy of leathercraft in small groups.
I am also a Mountain Guide throughout the summer months, working in my backyard (the Peak District National Park) Wales, the Lake District and my favourite place - the Scottish Highlands.
